Why the orange clothesline?
Well, orange is my favorite color… As for the clothesline? I had one as a young mom on the hill side of our 1880’s farmhouse. The time I spent using it was a highlight of that chapter of my life.
It was a place of refuge during some difficult times. As my spouse's struggles began to affect our family, that clothesline became my place of peace. A place I could go to escape, a place without conflict. I’d stand there, eyes softly closed, just listening to the kids playing, the breeze blowing, and the occasional car pass by. I’d often stand there – clothespins in hand - and pray. In the years to come, facing more hardship and loss, that farmhouse (and my clothesline) got foreclosed on.
But when I sit and tinker / craft? I feel that same calm and peace I did back then. It's a wonderful outlet, a way I made extra money as a single parent - and now simply a place of joy.
